Rafael Perez Evans is a multi-disciplinary Spanish/Welsh artist, now living and working in Mexico. Rafael received a BA in Fine art from Goldsmiths University, London UK, and recently completed a 3 months arts residency in Liberty Tennessee USA.
Since finishing his education, Rafael has exhibited widely and internationally. His work has focused increasingly on investigating extended notions of portraiture and landscape through photography, video and travelling. Throughout his distinct projects he uses performative strategies to set up scenarios, narratives and situations into which his subjects are invited and documented. Rafael has a particular interest in the sensual and magical realism. Along with making films, his editorial photographic work has featured in publications such as Harpers Bazaar, Dazed and Confused, Neo2, Oyster, Frieze & Showstudio. He has interviewed and photographed personalities such as Tilda Swinton, Hussein Chalayan, Gareth Pugh, Bernhard Willhelm, Alejandro Jodorowsky, as well as teaching photography at the University of Rochester, (UK). |
